St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The club was well represented at the Stepaside St. Patrick’s Day Parade and all present thoroughly enjoyed the event. Thanks to Naomi Murphy for organising. Pictures from the day have been uploaded to our web site.
Tag GAA Tournament for Childline
Next Saturday the 26th March Niamh Ryan will be running a unique Tag GAA Tournament in aid of ChildLine. This is part of a nationwide project called 100minds in which students across the country aim to raise money for a chosen charity. This year the project has nominated ChildLine as it is an excellent service which empowers, supports and protects thousands of young people every day. The charity is run on a voluntary basis by professionally trained ISPCC staff. All of the services are free and confidential and volunteers work endlessly to ensure that every child's call is answered. For the charity to remain as a 24 hour service, constant support and funding is required.
This fun and exciting tournament is taking place in Kilbogget from 11-2ish so feel free to pop down at any time and watch. To find out more about 100minds or to donate please click on the following link: https://www.100minds.org/2016/933/niamh-ryan
An EGM will take place on Wednesday March 30th @ 8.30pm in Cabinteely soccer club. The purpose of the meeting is to adopt our new constitution, a draft of which was circulated recently to all members.
St. Patrick’s Day
The club will be taking part in the Stepaside St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year. This is a fantastic opportunity for all teams to get together and mingle and march proudly behind the club banner and we would like to see as many players – and parents – participate in the parade. Final details regarding the parade are expected later today (Monday) and will be circulated to all members when received.
U10 (2006’s) Match Report
The U10s played their first scheduled County Board match this Saturday against Cuala in Thomastown Park on a lovely dry(!) and sunny afternoon. Twenty five girls came out to represent FoxCab making up 2 teams who played two matches each against a determined Cuala. As our mentor, Emma McSweeney put it .. "the girls couldn't have played any better and they should be very proud of themselves".
It was fantastic to see the girls working hard to gain possession and then following this up with some great passing sequences and combining together to convert some great scores.
Thanks to all the parents for full attendance and support before, during and after the game. Your assistance adds to the skills development of the team and management during training and matches.
Congratulations to senior team players Niamh Collins and Niamh Ryan who both played significant roles in UCD’s victory in the O’Connor Cup over the weekend. The O’Connor Cup is the premier competition in Ladies colleges football and was last won by UCD in 2006. It was a hard fought victory for UCD as they beat a highly fancied UCC team (who had 7 Cork Ladies Senior Players on the team) in the semi-final and they beat University of Limerick (who were going for their third title in a row) in the final. Both Niamh’s are members of the Dublin Ladies Senior panel (as are club players Sinead Goldrick, Amy Connolly and Amy Ring) and we hope this will be the first of many titles that the ladies pick up this year!
Dublin U14 Leinster Championship
Well done to club players Sarah O’Leary and Aisling O’Kelly who played for the Dublin U14 team in their victory over Wexford in the Leinster Championship on Saturday. Aisling turned in a terrific performance in the backs and Sarah scored a very impressive 2-1. Dublin play Kildare next week in the next round of the Leinster championship.
All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Final
Commiserations to Tarah O’Sullivan, Afric Whelan and their Colaiste Íosagáin team-mates on their defeat in the All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Final last Monday. It was a fantastic achievement to reach the final. Tarah will be in action for the Dublin minors next weekend when she captains the team in their Leinster Championship game against Offaly.
A club jacket with the initial CD was found on the front pitch in Loreto. Bernie Hedderman has this so if it’s yours, give Bernie a call on 086 2706682.
G4M Table Quiz
The G4M team are holding a table quiz on Thursday April 7th in The Grange Pub, Deansgrange. More details later, but make sure you put this in your diary now.
No games last weekend
All club games were cancelled last weekend due to the weather. Let’s hope that the worst of the bad weather is now behind us and that all club teams can return to playing football this weekend.
Strictly for Aoife
Loreto College Foxrock are organising a ‘Strictly For Aoife’ fundraising event at the moment and are putting out a call for male dancers for the event. If any male member is interested in in dancing could they please contact Bernie Hedderman on 086 2706682. The event is being held in O’Reilly Hall in UCD on 23rd April and rehearsals are starting this week.
Well done to the Dublin Ladies Senior and U16 teams - and the Foxrock Cabinteely players who were part of these teams - who had great wins over Tyrone and Longford respectively over the weekend.
Commitment of inter-county players
Our own Sinead Goldrick gave a fantastic interview during the week regarding the time and commitment required to be an inter-county player. The interview is available here and makes for very interesting reading and listening and points out the gulf between how ladies and men inter-county players are treated.
Club players selected for Ireland U16 Hockey Team
Congratulations to club players Christina Hamill, Siofra O’Brien and Caitlin Sheering who have all been selected for the Ireland U16 hockey squad for an upcoming tournament against Scotland.
